07-07-16: What A Lovely Couple Are You And I

"What Was I Made For?" is a 2023 Billie Eilish single she wrote with her brother Finneas for the movie Barbie. This mix includes a live cover on the BBC from the following year by Paul Weller as well as the original.

"Rooftop Garden" is the closing track from Lou Reed's 1983 album Legendary Hearts. This mix includes a 2021 cover by Bill Callahan and Bonnie 'Prince" Billy with George Xlouris as well as the original.

"Lick Or Sum" is a 2023 single by Glorilla. This mix features a cover by Xiu Xiu released earlier this year.

"Miss Black America" is from Curtis Mayfield's 1970 solo debut album Curtis. This mix features the album cut as well as a demo.

The country-tinged "Fire Lake" from the 1980 album Against The Wind by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band features background singing from Eagles members Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Timothy B. Schmitt.

Girls At Our Best! took their name from a line chanted on "Warm Girls", the B-side to their 1980 single "Getting Nowhere Fast", released before their first and only album, 1981's Pleasure and featured here.

06-30-16: I'm Just An Animal Looking For A Home

"Mama Don't Want No Peas An' Rice An' Cocoanut Oil" is a Bahamian song from 1932. This mix includes versions from Cleo Brown in 1935, Count Basie & His Orchestra with Jimmy Rushing in 1938 and Burl Ives with The Anita Kerr Singers in 1961.

A couple of other songs repeat across the mix. "Tapioca Tundra" is a Michael Nesmith-written song for The Monkees released on their 1968 album The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees. This mix includes an acoustic version Nesmith recorded during those album sessions as well as the album version. "Ocean Rain" is the title track to a 1984 Echo & The Bunnymen album, and is here along with a 2020 cover version by Tanya Donelly And The Parkington Sisters.

The J Dilla remix of Common's "Come Close", with Erykah Badu, Q-Tip and Pharrell Williams, samples the Roy Ayers'-produced Ramp's "Daylight" from their sole album, 1977's Come Into Knowledge.

The rest: Talib Kweli's Madlib-produced "The Show"; the political ""B" Movie", Junes Tyson eerie "Satellites Are Spinning" with Sun Ra; the jaunty "Jet Set Junta" by The Monochrome Set"; the punishing "Problems" from the sole Sex Pistols album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols released in 1977;  the funky "4 More" by De La Soul with Zhane; the suggestive "The Rub" by George and Gwen McRae; the vulnerable "Liquor" by Kara Jackson; the Bearsville demo of "They're Blind" by The Replacements; the haunting "Yes, The River Knows" by The Doors and a cover of "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody" by Badbadbadnotgood with Norah Jones.
