"For The Sake Of The Song" was from the 1968 debut album of the same name by Townes Van Zandt. He was unhappy with the production on the album and recorded a leaner version of this song for his third album, simply titled by his name, in 1969. In fact, he reocrded the song twice more, for a live 70s album and an 80s studio album.  This mix features his first two 60s recordings as well as a cover by Azure Ray.

"Do You Want To Know A Secret" is a George Harrison-sung song from the 1963 debut Beatles album Please Please Me. The song is credited to Lennon-McCartney but shortly before his death Lennon claimed to be the primary writer. This miz features the original along with covers by Keely Smith and Santo & Johnny.

One other song repeats across the mix: the obscure 70s soul ballad "Am I A Good Man", wiht a recent cover by Iron & Wine with Ben Bridwell.

"Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)" is a song from Stevie Wonder's 1972 album Music Of My Mind. Previous mixes have included versions by Carmen McRae and Quincy Jones. This mix includes covers by Lionel Hampton and Donny Hathaway performing live to accompany the original.

"For No One" is a song from The Beatles album Revolver, from 1966.  This mix includes versions by Caetano Veloso and Emmylou Harris with Davy Spillane as well as the original.

One other song repeats across the mix: two versions of Christopher Cross' "Ride Like The Wind", one by Montana Orchestra and the other by Freddie Hubbard.

"Pray Children If You Want To Go To Heaven" is one of only six songs recorded by the mysterious Nugrape Twins in the 1920s.  One of their songs "I Got Your Ice Cold Nugrape" was included on a previous mix years ago and is one of two early jingles for a nascent but still extant southern soda company. Their other songs, like this one, are pure gospel.

Two song repeat this week: My Bloody Valentine's anguished "No More Sorry", with a cover by Pas de Printemps pour Marnie and Yo La Tengo's Pauline Kael-reefrencing "Deeper Into Movies", with a new acoustic version to accompany 1997's wall of noise album version.

The "Apple Brightness Mix" of Sinead O'Connor's "I Am Stretched On Your Grave" contains samples of "How Soon Is Now" by The Smiths. On this mix that is followed by a Love Spit Love version of the Smiths' song.
