04-09-15: So Walk Tall, Or Baby Don't Walk At All

"Getting Nowhere Fast" is the April 1980 debut single by British punk band Girls At Our Best! This mix features that single with covers by The Fireworks and The Wedding Present.

"Things Have Changed" is a Bob Dylan song recorded by him in 1999 and released the following year on a movie soundtrack. This mix features covers by Bettye Lavette and The Persuasuasions to accompany the original.

One other Dylan song repeats on this mix: two covers of "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" from his 1969 album Nashville Skyline. Previous mixes have included covers by Linda Ronstadt and Norah Jones. This mix adds covers by Brothers & Sisters and Burl Ives.

"Gz Up, Hoes Down" is a song briefly on the original pressing of Snoop Dogg's 1993 debut album Doggystyle. It was removed from the record for not clearing its sample of Isaac Hayes' live 1973 version of the standard "The Look Of Love". Both of those tracks are featured here.

The rest: Stephanie Mills' sunny 1980 hit "Never Knew Love Like This Before", Don Blackman's funky "Yabba Dabba Do", the heavy "Magic Potion" by The Open Mind,  Busta Rhymes' apocalyptic "When Disaster Strikes", Wilson Pickett's cover of The Rascals' pop standard "Groovin'", the educational "Biology 101" by Dr. Octagon with Sir Melenik, the mellow "Caught Up In The Rapture Of Love" by Anita Baker, the contemplative"Who By Fire" by Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springtseen's epic "New York City Serenade".

This week features Waters' early original version from 1941 when he recorded under his birth name McKinley Morganfield, a 1968 cover by Backwards Sam Firk and a 2011 cover by Gregg Allman.
