"God Bless The Child" was written by Billie Holiday after an argument with her mother over money. It soon became a standard and this week's mix includes both her original 1941 version and her 1956 recording as well as covers by Lou Rawls with Les McCann Ltd., Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sonny Rollins and Richie Havens performing live.
Last week I included "Love Train" by The O'Jays. This week features a slower, churchy cover by Bunny Sigler.
