"Goin' Out Of My Head" was a top ten hit single for Little Anthony & The Imperials in 1964, written by a childhood friend of the group. It soon became a pop standard and this mix has featured versions by The Zombies both in the studio and on the BBC as well as Gloria Gaynor, Willie Bobo and Wes Montgomery in the studio and live performances by Ella Fitzgerald and Les McCann. This mix features Little Anthony's original as well as versions by Frank Sinatra and Esther Phillips.
"Helplessly Hoping" was written by Steven Stills before it was recorded by Crosby, Stills & Nash's eponymous 1969 debut album. This mix includes that as well as a rare demo Stills recorded a year or so before the group's version and a live 1972 cover by Richie Havens.
One other song repeats this week: Paul Simon's "Slip Slidin' Away" which was originally recorded for his 1975 album Still Crazy After All These Years, but instead left off that album and included on his Greatest Hits, Etc. It was a top five single in October of 1977. A previous mix included his demo version, this mix has that single as well as a cover by The Persuasions.
The alternate version of "Leather And Lace" by Stevie Nicks on here predates her hit duet version with Don Henley and has her singing all the lyrics herself.
"Candy" by El Alamo is an interpolation of Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes".
Redman's 1993 single "Tonight's Da Night" samples James Brown, Barry White, Mary Janes Girls and Raydio and was produced by Erick Sermon.
