"Save The Country" was written by Laura Nyro and first released as a single in 1968, inspired by the recent assassination of Robert Kennedy. She recorded a longer version for her album New York Tendaberry released the following year. This mix features both versions as well as covers by Thelma Houston and Rita Wright before she was known as simply Syreeta.
One other song repeats on the mix, the album and demo version of "Can't Get There From Here" by R.E.M. from their 1985 album Fables Of The Reconstruction, alternately known as Reconstruction Of The Fables on the side the song appears.
