"On The Sunny Side Of The Street" was written for Broadway in 1930 and soon became a jazz standard. On this week's mix are versions by Lionel Hampton & His Orchestra from 1937, Louis Armstrong revisiting the song in 1956 and a 1963 recording by a 13-year-old Stevie Wonder.
Bookending the mix are two versions of Daniel Johnston's "Story Of An Artist": the original and a cover by M.Ward. Also on here twice is the original version of "You're Going To Lose That Girl" by The Beatles as well as a cover by their contemporaries The Cryan' Shames.
The rest: the defiant "Brooklyn Zoo" by Ol' Dirty Bastard, the original Jamaican version of "Slave Driver" from Bob Marley & The Wailers' debut album Catch A Fire, Kanye West's swaggering "So Appalled" with RZA and Jay-Z as well as Pusha T and others, the rare 8os hip hop single "Sex, Sex, And More Sex" by Spciey Ham, the salacious 80s ballad "Candy Licker" by the recently departed Marvin Sease, Romeo Void's sly "Never Say Never", Eric Dolphy's aptly named "Something Sweet, Something Tender", the tense "A Mushroom Cloud" by Sammy Salvo, a cover of Bob Dylan's "Masters Of War" by The Staple Singers and the anguished "I Want You" by Elvis Costello & The Attractions.
