Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments" was originally written for an album by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis but the standard version appeared on Nelson's album a year later in 1961, featuring an incredible lineup including Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes. Two different sets of vocals were applied to the melody many years later. One version, recorded live in 1987 by Betty Carter and Carmen McRae, appears on this week's mix along with Ahmad Jamal's 1970 version to accompany Nelson's original.
"The House Song" was written and recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary in 1967. This week's mix features versions recorded in the next several years by Waylon Jennings, Scott Walker and Goldie Hawn.
Two other songs repeat across the mix: Inner Life's disco standard "I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)" with a cover by Risco Connection and Percy Sledge's soul ballad "It Tears Me Up" with a live cover by Elvis Costello's The Costello Show.
"Darling Be Home Soon" was written by John Sebastian for his band The Lovin' Spoonful, and their version as well as Joe Cocker's cover have previously appeared on the weekly mix. This week ends with Mama Cass Elliot's version.
The rest: the blissful "Say You, Say Me" by Lionel Richie, Slick Rick's playful "Kit (What's The Scoop)", the George Harrison-led "I Want To Tell You" by The Beatles, the mellow "Up For A Let Down" by Bettye Crutcher, P.M. Dawn's romantic "Paper Doll", an eerie remix of Mobb Deep's "G.O.D. pt. III" and the sweet "Lovely Way She Loves" by The Moments.
