"You Need Love", recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962 was written by Willie Dixon. Four years later The Small Faces recorded "You Need Loving" for their debut album, with Steve Marriott's vocals very similar to the Waters single. These provided a template for Led Zeppelin's 1969 recording "Whole Lotta Love". All three of these are on this week's mix, with the Zeppelin version taken from a BBC session.
Also released in 1969 was Nick Drake's debut album, which featured "River Man". This week's mix included an acoustic demo from a year earlier as well as the original and covers by Paul Weller and Brad Mehldau.
One other song appears more than once: The Louvin Brothers' "The Angels Rejoiced Last Night", with a cover by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.
