07-04-13: Beautiful Faces And Loud Empty Places

"Best Of My Love" is from The Eagles 1974 album On The Border. It became their first number one hit the following year, largely after DJ's played it instead of their more "rock-oritenetd" singles.  It was actually first released as a single by English singer John Lees. This mix features those two 1974 recordings as well as a rare 1977 cover by Hugh Masekela.

"Pour Man" is a 1968 song by Lee Hazelwood. This mix features covers by Speed The Plough and Killdozer as well as the original.

The rest: indie rock supergroup Swan Lake's melodic "All Fires", Billy Joel's Elvis Costello imitation "Sleeping With The Television On", Poor Righteous Teachers' Gil Scott Heron and Earth, Wind & Fire-sampling "Strictly Ghetto", the John Oates-led ballad "Alone Too Long" by Hall & Oates, the Freddie Hubbard-sampling "A Name I Call Myself" by Souls Of Mischief, the Spanish-sung 30s cowboy ditty "My Untrue Cowgirl" by Jewel Cowboys, Cowboy's blissful "Livin' In The Country", a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" by Donavon Frankenreiter, al alternate take of "Customer" by The Replacements, Spike Jines' joyful "Liebestraum", an updated version of Slick Rick's "Children's Story" by Black Star, Tyrone Washington's chaotic "Universal Spiritual Revolt", D'Angelo And The Vanguard's rhythmic "Til It's Done (Tutu)", a Tom Moulton remix of the earnest "Feel The Need In Me" by The Detroit Emeralds and Norah Joines' take on the Annette Hanshaw song "If You Want The Rainbow (You Must Have The Rain)".
