"Today I Started Loving You Again" was written by Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens and released as the b-side to his 1968 single "The Legend Of Bonnie And Clyde". This week features a newly unearthed cover by Buck Owens with Bettye Lavette as well as Sammi Smith's version to accompany the original.
"Memories Are Made Of This" is a popular song written in 1955. Dean Martin's version the following year was his biggest hit. The mix includes versions by The Everly Brothers and Johnny Cash in his later American Recordings period to go with Martin's hit version.
One other song repeats this week: Leonard Cohen's "The Stranger Song", with a cover by The Miserable Rich.
"Hello" by Erykah Badu with Andre 3000 is an interpolation of The Isley Brothers' cover of Todd Rundgren's "Hello, It's Me".
"Bonus Track" by Lone Catalysts is an interpolation of Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour".
The rare "America" by Wu-Tang appeared on the 1996 AIDS charity album America Is Dying Slowly and contains a sample of O.V. Wright's "Let's Straighten It Out".
The rest: the funky proto-rap "If You Want Your Man" by Julia Dewitt, the self-explanatory "Blunts" by Nice & Smooth, the lush funk of Donald Byrd's "(Fallin' Like) Dominoes, a cowbell-inflected cover of The Velvet Underground's "Rock & Roll", the frantic "Next To You" by The Police, a version of the hit song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" by its writer Lee Hazlewood, the wistful "I Don't Wanna Be Late" by the Notations, the plaintive "Lovesick Lonesome Blues" by Katherine Henderson, the resilient "Carrying That Load" by Ray Charles, an early fast version of "Glad Tidings" by Van Morrison and a cover of Randy Newman's "Marie" by Jose Feliciano.
