"Street Fighting Man" was a single released by The Rolling Stones in August 1968, within a week of the riots during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The song was banned by radio stations in Chicago for fear of inciting more violence. A previous mix featured the original. This mix, number 605 in the series, leads with Rod Stewart's cover from the following year as well as the Stones' live recording from late 1969 from their album Get Yer Ya Ya's Out and a pair of punk covers: a 1978 cover by Rikki & The Last Days Of Earth and Walter Lure leading the Ramones on a 1984 version. Also here is the rarely heard and unreleased original version by the Stones with entirely different lyrics called "Did Everybody Pay Their Dues?"
"Smoke Rings" is a standard first recorded by The Mills Brothers in 1933. In addition to that here are versions by Les Paul & Mary Ford from 1952, Sam Cooke in 1963 and k.d. lang in 1997.
