This week's mix features three versions of "There Stands The Glass": the original by Webb Pierce as well as covers by Wanda Jackson and Ted Hawkins. An earlier mix included a cover by Van Morrison. It states the case for drowning one's romantic sorrows in drink very plainly.
Also repeating on here are two versions of "Drowning On Dry Land", by O.V. Wright and Albert King, which make compelling arguments for it being both a soul and blues standard, respectively.
George Michael does a surprisingly good job with Stevie Wonder's haunting "They Won't Go When I Go", both versions are on here.
Finally among songs on here twice, Jackson Browne's "In the Shape Of A Heart". The album version has a certain grace that the slightly dated production doesn't detract from, but the live acoustic version is even better.
Other stuff: Bob Dylan's vitriolic "Like A Rolling Stone", the wistful "Pictures Of You" by The Cure, Real Live's menacing "The Turnaround", the funky "Big Bold Sister" by Ike & Tina Turner, the chaotic "Get It Up (Radioclit Mix)" by Santogold with M.I.A. and Gorilla Zoe, Super Lover Cee and Casonova Rud's cocky "Girls I Got 'Em Locked", J Dilla's bittersweet "Bye" and John Coltrane's majestic "Lonnie's Lament".
