10-02-08: Doing Things We Used To Do

Last year's mix features two versions of The Temptations hit "Hum Along And Dance": the original and a cover by The Jackson Five.  The other song on here twice is Rush's "Tom Sawyer" with a cover by The Bad Plus.

Other stuff: an acoustic take of "Can't Hardly Wait" by The Replacements, a magnificent live cover of The Beatles' "A Day In The Life" by Neil Young, DJ Schmolli's inspired mash-up of M.I..A. and Bon Jovi called "M.I.A. Wanted Dead Or Alive", Mudhoney's crunchy "Need", Charles Mingus' wry "Oh Lord Don't Let Them Drop That Atomic Bomb On Me", Raydio's cheerful "You Can't Change That", an MF Doom remix of Nas' "Life We Chose", Ghostface Killah rapping over "ABC" by The Jackson Five, the sweet "I'm Hip To You" by The Jelly Beans, Yo La Tengo's tender "Almost True", Nina Simone's soulful cover of George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity", Duke Ellington and John Coltrane's haunting rendition of the standard "In A Sentimental Mood" and Diane Keaton's touching version of the standard "Seems Like Old Times" from the Woody Allen film Annie Hall.
