This mix from five years ago was near the U.S. Presidential election so there are a number of socially minded songs on here: "Wake Up Everybody (Part 1)" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Tracy Chapman's "Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution" and Aretha Franklin's cover of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come".
Well, those titles were more hopeful than prescient as a change didn't come, no one was talkin' 'bout a revolution and no one woke up.
More upbeat are two versions of Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Is Lifting Me) Higher And Higher: the original and Rita Coolidge's hit cover from the 70s.
The Clash cover of The Village People's "Y.M.C.A." is just a tape of them drunkenly singing over the record on a radio show, but pretty entertaining just the same.
Other stuff: Albert Ayler's chaotic "Universal Indians (alternate take)", the spooky "2000 Light Years From Home" by The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan with The Band from the Basement Tape sessions on a loose rewrite of an old Bobby Bare song called "All-American Boy", the cheerfully morose "Who Loves The Sun" by The Velvet Underground, the detailed "Camay" by Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg's percussive Pharrell collaboration "Drop It Like It's Hot", Shirley & Company's fun "Shame, Shame, Shame", Q-Tip's funky "Do U Dig U?", Player's forlorn "Baby Come Back", Don Covay's wistful "I Stole Some Love", Alejandro Escovedo's cover of The Rolling Stones' "Sway" and Donovan's tender "Catch The Wind".
