06-29-06: Yes We're Lovers, And That Is That

David Bowie's "Heroes" appears twice on this mix from a few years back. In addition to the full-length album version I have a great live acoustic version that Bowie performed at a benefit organized by Neil Young for The Bridge School.

The other repeating song this week is The Clash's "White Riot", given a nice countrified take by Cracker.

The music of Pavement is also featured on this mix, with their "winter version" of "Summer Babe" as well as an instrumental jazz cover of "Here" by Carter, Chestnut, Jackson & Veal and an odd, piano-driven cover of "Cut Your Hair" by Casey Daniel.

Other stuff:  Lalo Shiffrin's soundtrack work for the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry film called "Magnum Force Theme", Nas' cocky "Where Y'all At", Kalyanji & Aanadji's Bollywood piece "Kundab's Hideout", Foreigner's "Urgent" featuring Junior Walker on saxophone, William DeVaughn's wise "Be Thankful For What You Got", KMD's sweet "Peachfuzz", Johnny Bristol's funky "Lusty Lady", a live cover of The Temptations' "Just My Imagination" by The Rolling Stones, a live version of "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" by John Lennon, Frank Black & The Catholics' mopey "When Will Happiness Find Me Again?", Grant-Lee Phillips gentle cover of The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry", and The Young Holt Trio with an instrumental version of the Frank Sinatra standard "Strangers In The Night".
