11-22-12: I Hand Myself Over On A Plate

"The Weight" was a single from the 1968 debut album Music From Big Pink by The Band. Previous mixes have featured covers by Jackie DeShannon, The Staple Singers, Rotary Connection featuring Minnie Riperton and Joe Cocker performing live. This week's mix features the original as well as covers by Aretha Franklin and Rickie Lee Jones.

"Poems, Prayers And Promises" is the title track to John Denver's hit album released in 1971. This week features covers by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy with Dawn McCarthy as well as a version by The Everly Brothers to accompany the original.

"I'll Keep It With Mine" was written by Bob Dylan in 1964, and recorded several times, notably for his album Blonde On Blonde, but never included on any official album. Previous mixes have included Nico's debut album version as well as a rare duet version with Lou Reed along with other covers by Judy Collins and Fairport Convention. This week included Dylan's first recorded version from 1965, as well as a version recorded by Marianne Faithfull some 20 years later.

The rest: the forlorn "I've Been In Love" by The Smith Connection, Nice & Smooth's jazzy "Old To The New" the spiritual "He's A Superstar" by Roy Ayers, the mellow "Luck Of Lucien" by A Tribe Called Quest, the sweet "Always Together" by Marcia Griffiths and Bob Andy, the epic "1 Train" by Rocky A$AP with a slew of others, the spacey "Time To Go Home" by Otis G. Johnson, the odd "My Neighbor The Firefighter" by Paul Barton and Duke Ellington's version of the Fats Waller composition "My Gal Is Good For Nothing But Love" with Frankie Marvin on vocal.
