Les McCann's classic collboration with Eddie Harris, "Compared To What" manages to be both angry and funky at the same time. That's followed by a late period Sly Stone with "Only One Way Out Of This Mess". Paul Westerberg's snotty "Silent Film Star" continues a loose mini-theme of theatrics.

"When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You" is the centerpiece of Marvin Gaye's bizarre divorce album Here, My Dear. As the proceeds were earmarked for his ex-wife (and the sister of his label boss), he made a purposely uncommercial jazzy album of bitter but also bittersweet and loving songs. This one is hauinting and beautiful.
Wrapping up this mix is a nice cover of Pharoah Sanders' "The Creator Has A Master Plan" by Louis Armstrong, then the odd but oddly moving "Actor In The Street" by Paul Westerberg, replete with film puns and biblical allusions.
