Charles Wight & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's funky "Express Yourself" is featured on this mix from a few years ago. In addition to the original, I have a reggae cover by Leroy Sibbles and an interpolation by N.W.A.
This mix also includes three cover versions of The Beatles' Abbey Road ballad "Because". George Benson's was recorded almost immediately after The Beatles original and segues into a medley with "Come Together". Additionally, I have versions by MystiQuintet and a particularly haunting take by jazz organist Shirley Scott.
Other stuff: a chorus-filled "Nomadic" remix of "Top Billin'" by Audio Two, the sweet "Walking In Rhythm" by The Blackbyrds, an atmospheric "Original Omega One" remix of Eric B. & Rakim's "Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em", Stevie Wonder's cover of The Doors' "Light My Fire", a live version of "Touch The Sky" by Kanye West with Lupe Fiasco, The Clash's tuneful "Spanish Bombs", Tommy Steele's whistling "Singing The Blues", T. Rex's giddy "Debora", Slim Harpo's harmonica-driven "Shake Your Hips", Rolling Stones outtake "Traveling Man", the percussive "Great Curve" by Talking Heads, Clipse's mixtape anthem "Roll With The Winners", Led Zeppelin's wistful "Going To California" and Tom Waits' hushed "There's Only Alice".
